Winter 2022 Wrestling - GRADES K-8

Welcome to the Winter 2022 Wrestling Registration with South County Athletic Association!

This registration session will allow you to complete contact information, sign up for participation, and submit payment.

Please read through each page carefully to ensure that all information is provided accurately. 

To complete registration through our secure site, please have your Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or ACH Bank Account information available.

 


General Information: Registration, Practices, Meets (includes tentative meet schedule)

Registration Costs:

  • $190.00 per athlete
  • Early bird $180.00 before October 1
  • Multiple athlete discount, second/third/etc. athlete 170.00 after first 190
  • Uniform question (required), have a uniform that fits, or pick size [use sizes from last winter’s registration] adds $75 to total [required for participating in meets]
  • Please email Coach Payne directly to inquire about scholarships.  Scholarships are for eligible athletes that attend South County pyramid schools including Newington Forest ES, Halley ES, Lorton Station ES, Laurel Hill ES, Gunston ES, Silverbrook ES, and South County Middle School.  Include in your email, your child's attending school, their age, their needs as far as registration fees, equipment (uniforms, wrestling shoes, headgear, and mouth guards), and the season being requested.  Please include your email, and cell phone number so contact can be followed up. Scholarships are for registration fees, and equipment (uniforms, wrestling shoes, headgear, and mouth guards).  They are available on a case by case basis.  You must contact Coach Payne. General guideline is if your child utilizes FCPS free and reduced meals, please consider applying.

Cost breakdown $84.00 for league/tournament fees for NVWF league, $50.00 for USA wrestling insurance/affiliation, $15.00 SCAA fees, $12.00 for team shirt, $30 team fees

***additional cost to be purchased by family: wrestling shoes [$50-$170], wrestling headgear [$25-$45] (sporting goods stores like Dicks), and mouth guard if have braces [$14-$20]***

 

Practice Schedule

  • First Practice Tuesday, November 8 6:30-8 PM, SCHS wrestling room entrance #11, drop off and pick up
  • Practices Tuesdays/Thursdays 6:30-8 PM
  • Wear comfortable workout gear, t-shirt and shorts as well as wrestling shoes, wrestling headgear recommended for practice, mandatory for meets starting Dec. 11
  • Returning wrestlers grades 4+ Wednesdays as well 6:30-7:30

Meets/competitions start in December

  • Meets are typically Sundays since gyms that we used are often booked Saturdays, coaches coach high school on Saturdays, and officials are high school wrestlers who compete Saturdays

  • February 19 BYE – HS State Tournament BYE HS
  • February 25-26 Lake Braddock HS Lake Braddock WC

Athletes weigh in and compete against similar sized athletes within 10 pounds similar weight and within one season experience level

Meet weight/age divisions are as follows:

  • Senior             7-8th grade
  • Intermediate  5-6
  • Junior              4-3
  • Midget             2-1
  • Bantam           K

Age Groups are projected (will be finalized at the end of registration in November)

Projected Weigh In TIMES

  • Bantam & Midgets 8:00-8:30 am
  • Juniors-10:30-11:00 am
  • Intermediates-12:30-1:00 pm
  • Seniors- 2:15-2:45 pm

They will weigh in and then warm up.  After that, they will get 2-3 matches depending on the number of athletes that weigh in.  This usually lasts about one and a half to two hours.

Meets will run with 2-3 matches per athlete, with a few minutes down time between matches.  There are referees for each individual match of athlete on athlete, a coach for each athlete mat side, a referee to officiate the match, and a certified athletic trainer at every meet to assess injuries and provide medical treatment and advice.
